“This song is about an ex of mine; now the lucky bitch has a song about her,” shouts Stars, frontwoman to fast-rising three-piece, Bang Bang Romeo. 

Saturday night sees Bang Bang Romeo at The Joiners and the night is filled with energy and quirks similar to the performance style of Lizzo, who I later find out Stars loves. The personality behind this amazing frontwoman is partly why I assume so many people are starting to really dig this band. Not only is she a modern voice for the LGBT community, but her presence can’t help but lighten ones mood.

Her voice is that of a rarity and not only does she bring power and empowerment to everyone in the audience, but along with it comes a strong soulful authority that turns some audience members to tears.  During my interview with the group, I don’t get a chance to ask frontwoman (whose real name is Anastasia Walker) why her nickname is ‘Stars’. However, whilst watching the performance it becomes clear she is indeed a ‘star’…so I just put two and two together.

They belt through loved tracks such as ‘Shame on You’ and ‘Chemical’ which sees the whole room waving phone lights (the modern alternative to lighters) before they play their most recent track, ‘Love Yourself’ that the band recently wrote with Example. The screen at the back of the stage fills up with Example’s face as he sings along with the band at the front. Plus, the song- despite being new- is shouted back by every audience member.  “I fucking love myself!” Stars yells as her self-confidence leaks onto the adoring fans. This woman is really starting to make an impact on the way women look at themselves. (Which is BRILLIANT!)

People are desperate to see this band again and seem to get hooked pretty damn quick. This is proved by the amount of people who caught BBR on their recent arena tour with P!NK and then came to see them again tonight. The band have just returned from tour with the pop sensation and it’s no surprise that many of the nights on their current tour have sold out (including this evening).

BBR are going places. 

Their confidence and ability to inject confidence into others is infectious and something you want to be a part of. It is clear from tonight that Bang Bang Romeo give a big performance on a small stage and it won’t be long until the stage size will be matching their level of ability.
