Broken Witt Rebels: Live Review

Broken Witt Rebels: Live Review
27/11/17 The Joiners
Broken Witt Rebels are the Birmingham quartet touring the U.K to promote their debut album, Broken Witt Rebels. Their bluesy rock ‘n’ roll brushes against the growling hum of early Kings of Leon whilst retaining its own whiskey-tainted identity. The soulful and sensual blues-rock found in their set at The Joiners is quick to reveal the extent of the power this band can deliver.
The Birmingham-based band bring Sonia Leigh on tour with them. The Tennessee singer/songwriter brings a Joan Jett aura and her narrative on human-expression translates through a set that is hard to fit into one genre. However, Katy Hurt’s backing band accompany Leigh on stage and treat us to one of their numbers that flings a whirlwind of tasteful touches and groovy rhythms.
It’s Monday night and The Joiners is packed. Admittedly, the average age rounds to about 40 however, the turn out shows the complete success of Broken Witt Rebel’s recent album. The polished sound combined with the confident lyrics from Danny Core creates a free-spirited cheerfulness and after seeing the progression of Broken Witt Rebels over the last year, its apparent that one thing the band haven’t lost is their passion. Core spends half the set on his knees and makes the set as visually pleasing as the music, whilst the rest of the band continue to thrive with their bluesy formula. The hard-hitting humidity driven from Broken Witt Rebels is what fuels this performance and will continue to drive them in the right direction.
Catch them at Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham, Manchester and Planet Rock on the last leg of their tour.
