Emily Capell Releases First Single Ahead of Debut Album

“I never feel secure when listening to The Doors, I’m running myself a hot bath. And if the water runs cold, my little heart of gold, will be all alone in the dark”.

This is the opening lyric of Emily Capell’s newest single ‘I've Found a Footballer to Marry Me’ which explores the idea of a girls’ secret desire to marry a footballer in which to obtain financial security in the current, financial climate. The North West Londoner releases this as her FIRST track from upcoming debut, Combat Frock set to be released this October.

This single alone motions a sweet insight in what Combat Frock has to offer for us. The upbeat combination of ska, pop, indie and blues is an exciting recipe that also contains a revitalisation of a late ‘70s Clash sound that is present in a lot of her upcoming debut. Her style is then finished with her perfect image of a young, British mod complete with bee-hive and cheeky tone weaved into her lyrics.

Capell’s lyrical innocence is reminiscent of an early Lily Allen and holds similar potentials to Kate Nash. The charisma that is found in her songs is highlighted by her prominent accent and soulful finish. Plus, the beat of the track combined with the overlay of guitar could be labelled as Babyshambles-esque with nods to The Jam.

The perky combination of genres that Capell blends makes her stand out from your average indie-pop singer and inspires a cheerful, musical future. Her quirkiness is a trait that is hard not to love and makes her music nothing but a joy to listen to.
