Band of the Moment: The Britanys

Band of the Moment: The Britanys

Emerging from the dungeon of their home basement in Brooklyn, New York, come the new and exciting love child of Alex Turner and Julian Casablancas, The Britanys.
After already playing alongside bands such as Yak, Public Access T.V. and Hinds, it’s no wonder this New York 4-piece are beginning to create a whirlpool within the music industry. The Britanys have created a way of combining indie with vintage rock ‘n’ roll in a refreshing way that has revamped any stereotypes associated with these genres.

Their Soundcloud contains a multitude of tracks to get anyone excited about whatever The Britanys are going to stir up next. With obvious Arctic Monkey characteristics found in every song, mainly throughout the vocals of Lucas Long, this band seem to have taken aspects from their inspirations before adding a tasteful twist, revamping the old sounds we first fell in love with from these bands.
The most obvious comparison to align
The Britanys with is The Strokes. By capturing the antique sounds found in early Strokes albums, it comes as no surprise to discover that they have had a few tracks produced by Gordon Raphael (producer of Is This It and Room on Fire); one of these tracks being ‘Basketholder’. This song, that also captures the distorted sounds of Pete and Carl’s (Libertines) rocky relationship, reflects a soft New York twist on our British idea of indie. The fuzzy chords and DIY echo are a smooth refreshment on what we are used to in the music scene today, as The Britanys are your latest escape route to a world of care-free, indie rock ‘n’ roll.
