Speedy Ortiz Are Back With New Single ‘Lucky 88’

“I make a frown I always wear it upside down” sings Sadie Dupuis, or maybe better known as Sad13. Speedy Ortiz are back with new single, ‘Lucky 88’ and are drifting away from the brash artiness of the 90s found in their previous albums. What has happened to the grunge, chilling sound found in both albums that helped Speedy Ortiz stand out from literally everyone?

After the results of the 2016 President election, the Massachusetts four-piece scrapped their hand-crafted, third LP that no longer seemed appropriate and started a new batch of songs for their actual third album due out April, 2018. Their new single is a taster of what’s to come and has a more snyth-driven style. The only thing that makes it recognisable at Speedy Ortiz is the individual flair of the vocals however, other than that it has drifted rather substantially away from their previous sound. The song is still filled with colour and a unique flavour however, I hope the four-piece don’t lose the raw skin that coated their earlier tracks.
